چکیده

The N-body problem is to simulate the motion of N particles under the influence of mutual force fields based on an inverse square law. The problem has applications in several domains including astrophysics, molecular dynamics, fluid dynamics, radiosity methods in computer graphics and numerical complex analysis. Research efforts have focused on reducing the O(iV^) time per iteration required by the naive algorithm of computing each pairwise interaction. Widely respected among these are the BarnesHut and Greengard methods. Greengard claims his algorithm reduces the complexity to 0{N) time per iteration. Throughout this thesis, we concentrate on rigorous, distribution-independent, worst-case analysis of the N-body methods. We show that Greengard's algorithm is not 0{N), as claimed. Both Barnes-Hut and Greengard's methods depend on the same data structure, which we show is distribution-dependent. For the distribution that results in the smallest running time, we show that Greengard's algorithm is D,{Nlog'^N) in two dimensions and Q,{Nlog'^N) in three dimensions. Both algorithms are unbounded for arbitrary distributions. We have designed a hierarchical data structure whose size depends entirely upon the number of particles and is independent of the distribution of the particles. We show that both Greengard's and Barnes-Hut algorithms can be used in conjunction

Determination of the Best Hierarchical Clustering Method for Regional Analysis of Base Flow Index in Kerman Province Catchments

The lack of complete coverage of hydrological data forces hydrologists to use the homogenization methods in regional analysis. In this research, in order to choose the best Hierarchical clustering method for regional analysis, base flow and related index were extracted from daily stream flow data using two parameter recursive digital filters in 43 hydrometric stations of the Kerman province. Ph...

On determination of sample size in hierarchical binomial models.

We consider a two- and a three-stage hierarchical design containing the effects of k clusters with n units per cluster. In the two-stage model, the conditional distribution of the discrete response Y(i) is assumed to be independent binomial with mean n(straight theta)i (I=1,....k). The success probabilities, straight theta(i)'s, are assumed exchangeable across the k clusters, each arising from ...

Association between Body Mass Index and Mitral Valve Prolapse

Introduction: Body mass index (BMI) can affect cardiac morphology; however, the relationship between BMI and valvular heart diseases has not been thoroughly evaluated. This study aimed to determine the relationship between BMI and mitral valve prolapse (MVP) as one of the most common valve diseases worldwide. It can help us to better understand pathophysiology of this common disease. Materials ...

A Data-Parallel Implementation of Hierarchical N-Body Methods

The O(N) hierarchical N{body algorithms and Massively Parallel Processors allow particle systems of 100 million particles or more to be simulated in acceptable time. We describe a data parallel implementation of Anderson's method and demonstrate both eeciency and scalability of the implementation on the Connection Machine CM{5/5E systems. The communication time for large particle systems amount...
